When designing an overhead crane (bridge crane) there are many issues to be considered:
- What is the bridge capacity
- How often is the crane to be used
- What span is required
- How long is the runway travel and how much must the hoist lift
- Will the building support the bridge or will it be self-supporting or a combination thereof
- Will the bridge be used indoors or outdoors, and how to power the crane
- Will the bridge crane be entirely motorized, a push-pull, hand geared, or combination
If it is motorized,does it need single or dual speeds, variable frequency drives,
and what are the required voltages and control mechanisms:
- Pendant from hoist
- Separate track
- Remote control
